Charmian’s NDE is interesting as she went straight into a place of golden light and almost immediately encountered Jesus – without requesting to see him (in some NDEs it is a direct request to see Jesus) and without being previously spiritual. What is interesting is that Jesus is recognised as Jesus, even though Charmian wasn’t a Christian at the time. She tried to indicate to Jesus that she wasn’t a Christian “I’m not one of yours”, but the reply was “No, but I am one of yours”.
Like many NDEs she recognised the place she had gone to was more real than the real world. So although from our perspective it may appear ethereal with descriptions of golden light, when experienced it was experienced as a more real than down on Earth and that it is on Earth that it is more of an illusion.

Into the golden light
(1:07) So the first night that I was in the hospital I felt myself drifting up out of my body. And I had never had any kind of religious or spiritual experience in my life before. But I knew that wherever I was going was into peace and love and there were angels connected with it, so there was no fear at all. So I drifted way, way up into this beautiful golden light.
And as soon as I got there I just knew that this is the real world. This has everything that I could ever need. This is truth, it is reality, it is absolute love. And everything down there that I had left behind was completely unreal, illusion and empty.
Meeting Jesus
(2:12) So I was in this wonderful golden light and in front of me was this beautiful shining figure made of white light, and it was Jesus. And in the beginning I was going “No, no, I’m not one of yours” because I hadn’t had, I wasn’t a Christian. And he said “No, but I am one of yours”.
So I just felt this unbelievable love, unconditional acceptance, love. No matter what I had done, who I was, where I had been, there was just this incredible love. And I could feel all these beings around him, angelic beings, just beaming love. I’ve never felt love like that in my life before.
The need to go back

Electric blue, blazing star
(3:54) But I knew that where I was with him in the light was where I belonged and this was home. And that if I went back down there I was leaving home. So I said to him, “How can I go back down there knowing that this is where I belong with you?”
Now his heart was this blazing blue star. It was just brilliant, clear, electric blue. Blazing star. So he broke off a point of his star and he said to me, he put it into my heart, and he said “Now you will know that I am always with you”.
